2025–26 tax returns and the 31 October 2026 date
For people who lodge their own return, the usual deadline for a 2025–26 individual tax return is 31 October 2026. The ATO says most registered tax agents have a lodgment program that lets them lodge for clients after that date, but anyone using a tax agent for the first time, or changing agents, needs to contact the agent before 31 October to be included.
Under the ATO's registered agent lodgment program for 2025–26 returns, individuals and trusts with one or more earlier returns still outstanding at 30 June 2026 keep the 31 October 2026 due date. Individuals whose latest return showed a tax liability of $20,000 or more are generally due by 31 March 2027, and most remaining individuals and trusts by 15 May 2027, with a concession to 5 June 2027 when any tax owing is also paid by then. The exact date depends on each person's lodgment history and circumstances.
